🐾 January Recap
What a busy month we had at Special Lil Whiskers Sanctuary! Here's what happened in January:
Medical Updates
Chloe and Maggy were both spayed and are healing beautifully! Once they're fully recovered, both girls will be available for rehoming. They're sweet, loving cats who deserve wonderful fur-ever homes.
We continued vetting Gem, though she can't be spayed yet until her health is fully assessed.
Dixie will be visiting the vet to check if she's hypoglycemic as she's been showing signs of it. (We stive to ensure all our cats get the care possible!)
Facility Improvements
We've been working hard on our basement transformation! This expansion will allow us to take in more cats in need. Every square foot we create means another life we can save.
Cats Available for Adoption in Decatur
Meet our wonderful cats currently looking for their forever homes:
Phantom is a playful 2-year-old with an independent spirit and an adorable obsession—his pom pom ball, which you'll often find him proudly carrying around the house! This handsome boy does well with dogs and some cats, making him a great fit for the right multi-pet household. Phantom is best suited for families with older children or adults who appreciate a cat with personality and a playful streak.
Lucas - is a 1-year-old love bug who lives for hugs and snuggles! This affectionate young cat has enough love to share with everyone—he gets along wonderfully with cats, dogs, and kids, making him the perfect addition to any family. If you're looking for a devoted companion who will shower you with affection and warmth, Lucas is your guy!
Chloe & Maggy - Coming soon! These sweet girls are healing from their spay surgeries and will be ready for their fur-ever homes shortly.

📅 What's Coming in February
Oreo gets fixed! After Oreo's surgery, all eligible cats at the sanctuary will be up-to-date on their spay/neuter.
Dixie's vet visit to determine if she's hypoglycemic. Once we get her diabetes under control, she'll be able to be spayed. Until then, she won't be around males or available for adoption.
Continuing basement work to expand our capacity and help more cats.
Monthly supply run! We'll be stocking up on food and medications. We'll try to remember to take photos so you can see some of what these precious cats go through each month! (There's always a surprise need somewhere in the month.)
Continuing to vet Gem to get her healthy and ready for her spay surgery. Currently we believe she has IBS (a.k.a. irritable bowel syndrome).
💝 Why Adopt a Cat from Special Lil Whiskers?
Looking to adopt a cat in Decatur, Illinois? As a new sanctuary, I'd like to remind you how we're different from traditional animal shelters:
We're a home-based cat rescue which means we know these cats personally. Unlike shelter environments, our cats live in a real home setting, so we understand their personalities, quirks, preferences, and behaviors in a family environment.
You know exactly what to expect. No surprises—we can tell you if a cat is cuddly or independent, playful or calm, vocal or quiet, and how they interact with other pets and kids.
Continuing support after adoption. We're here for you! If you have questions or concerns after bringing your new friend home, we're just a message away.
We ensure the best match. Our goal is a fur-ever home for every cat, which means making sure personalities and lifestyles align for everyone's happiness.
🆘 Support Our Nonprofit Cat Sanctuary - Donations Needed!
As a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit cat sanctuary in Decatur, Illinois, we rely entirely on community donations to continue our lifesaving work. Your tax-deductible contributions directly support rescued cats and kittens:
Veterinary care: spay and neuter surgeries, medical treatments (Dixie is going to need an extensive workup and Gem still needs a final diagnosis), vaccinations, wellness checkups, and emergency care
Specialized cat food: Many of our cats are special needs which means they also need special diets. While we've done our best to curtail this expense both for our sanctuary and with our adopters in mind, it's still an additional expense for us.
Medications for special needs cats: Whether it be over-the-counter, vet recommended vitamins or in some cases, specialized medications it's something our cats need and will receive in our care.
Sanctuary facility improvements and expansion to rescue more cats in need: We have cats that we have to turn away each day because we can't take everyone. Once our basement is up-to-standards we'll be able to double our capacity and help more cats.
Daily care, enrichment activities, and socialization for cats in our care! While many people believe that cats are a pet that doesn't need these things, it simply isn't true.
Every dollar makes a difference in a cat's life.
