About Our Adoption Process

We work hard to ensure each of our cats finds a loving, permanent home tailored to their unique personality and needs. To adopt, start by completing our online adoption application after browsing through our available cats.

The Adoption Journey

• Application Review: Applications are typically processed within 5 business days. Processing may take longer in special circumstances as we ensure a good match for the pet and adopter.

• Meet & Greet: Once approved, we will contact you to schedule a meet & greet. During this visit, a decision will be made on whether you’re a good fit.

• Adoption Decision: Approved applications do not guarantee adoption. After the meet & greet, potential outcomes include setting a go-home date, a recommendation for a different pet, or referral to another organization.

• Adoption Contract: Once an adoption is confirmed, you’ll review and accept our online adoption contract, which outlines the care and commitment required for your new family member.

Important Notes

• Adoption Fees: Range from $75 to $100, depending on the cat. These fees help cover spaying/neutering, vaccinations, and other medical care.

• Age Requirement: Adopters must be at least 21 years old.

• Pairs & Compatibility: Dogs in the household must be cat-friendly.

• No Gift Adoptions or Holds: Animals are not adopted out as gifts or placed on hold to ensure they are matched with committed adopters. This is also why no adoptions will occur from December 7 - January 7 of each year Additionally, no black cats will be adopted between October 1 - November 7 of each year.

Before Going Home

All of our cats and kittens receive:

• Spaying or neutering

• Kitten and Rabies vaccinations

• Deworming

Our cats are cared for in our loving home where they are socialized and nurtured to prepare them for their furever homes.

Lifelong Commitment

Adopting a cat is a 10 to 20-year commitment. Our cats already have special needs, so we prioritize finding a stable, loving environment to avoid further disruptions in their healthcare.

3. Meet Your Match: If approved, we’ll arrange a meet & greet at a time that is mutually agreeable for both us and the adopter.

What If the Adoption Doesn’t Work Out?

At Special Little Whiskers Kitten Rescue, adoption is about welcoming a lifelong companion into your home—not simply acquiring a pet. If you have any doubts about whether adopting is the right decision, we encourage you to take your time and wait until you feel confident and ready.

The adoption fee helps cover the essential care we provide to each cat, including spaying/neutering, vaccinations, and housing. Unfortunately, we can't refund adoption fees if you change your mind.

If an adoption doesn’t work out, we are committed to the well-being of our cats and will always accept back any cat adopted from us, no matter the circumstances.
